March On

You remember the old saying "March comes in like a lion and out like lamb?" That holds true in the Fourth District. Each year, our local federation board members work tirelessly and with complete dedication on local programs, the entire ADDY process from entry day, judging, and local gala's to finally forwarding each winning entry to the district competition in early March. I sincerely thank all the board members and entrants across Florida & the Caribbean for your time and efforts in helping to recognize great creative and congratulations to all the local winners.  We look forward to seeing the winning work at District judging this weekend.

March is  a very important month in our district as we gather together for the AAF's most important initiative, Government Relations. The 4th District’s Government Relations initiative is focused on protecting members and the industry from proposed government regulations.  On Tuesday, March 19 our membership will assemble in Tallahassee to remind our state Senators and Representatives that we vigilantly monitor threats to our industry’s tax exemption status or other proposed regulations that could negatively impact the advertising industry.   On  this day, our unique strength as a grassroots organization shines.   AAF - District Four is comprised of 22 local federations with over 1,400 members. We are part of the national  AAF  organization  which includes over 40,000 members.  We get noticed on capital hill. I invite you to come, advocate for advertising and join us in Tallahassee. Yes You Can Talk With Your Legislators

Fourth District members have been visiting state legislators in Tallahassee since 1987 when we fronted the battle to repeal the the Services Tax. Our proactive efforts ultimately paid off with a bill that clarified the advertising exemption in 2000. So this annual face to face meeting has proved very valuable in protecting the interests of the advertising industry. Previously known as the Advertising Fly-In and then the Rally in Tally, last yer we re-branded the event as Advertising Day and use it as an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact we have on the economy and showcase our public service initiatives.

All Florida advertising professionals are invited to participate. However, if it's your first visit to the Capitol, the prospect of meeting face to face with legislators may seem intimidating at first. To say nothing of navigating the confusing maze of the state government complex. That's why District Legislative Chair Barry Wallace is presenting a webinar tomorrow, March 5th that will cover how to prepare for and maximize the effectiveness of our day in the Capitol.

To participate in this webinar Tuesday, March 5th from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. Go to:  Then call Conference number: 1.862.367.5900  Conference ID: 693-372-997#

Scholarship Money Is Available

If you have a student in an advertising program, thousands of dollars in scholarship money is available. But, time is running out to claim it. District Chair Mara Rodriguez has announced that the deadline to apply for the AAF 4th District Scholarships has been extended to March 15th. The deadline was pushed two weeks from the original date to give busy students one last chance to participate of this great opportunity.  The AAF 4th District offers four different scholarships of $1,000 each; District Governor's Scholarship, Club President Scholarship, Silver Medal Scholarship, and Mosaic Diversity Scholarship. The purpose of this program is to help students prepare to be the future leaders and stewards of the advertising industry. Click here for more information at
