John Cummins Award (for Legislative Excellence and Commitment)
The John Cummins Legislative Award expresses the 4th District’s profound gratitude for and appreciation of the loyal, patriotic work and responsible leadership of John Cummins, who strove to further the Federation’s goal of improving the climate in which advertising operates and advertising itself.
Awarded to honor the individual, group or organization that has demonstrated an outstanding record in promoting understanding and dialogue between government and citizenry, or has furthered individual rights or legislative experience. It may be presented annually.
Who was John Cummins?
John Cummins was active in advertising in Florida and around the nation until his untimely death in February 1970. A member of the Board of the Fourth District of the American Advertising Federation for eight years, he co-chaired its Legislative Committee. In 1968, he was named the first chairman of the American Advertising Federation National Legislative Committee.
Mr. Cummins earned the AAF Robert M. Feemster National Award, for his outstanding Legislative program for the Fourth District, and the Printer's Ink Silver Medal Award for his contribution above and beyond his sales management duties.
Who Is Eligible?
Any person, group or organization that has demonstrated an outstanding record in support of the free enterprise system may be nominated for this award. Recipients may be may be an elected or appointed official, businessperson, consumer advocate, or community leader. Maybe it's your local consumer advocate who lobbies your legislator on your behalf or the organization that encourages citizens to think, speak and act, so as to help preserve and strengthen our government. It could even be the local newspaper, radio or television station that does outstanding in-depth series reporting.
